Penny joined our family in 2010. She was unlike any dog we have ever had. We laughed that she was more cat than dog both in temperament and the way she moved and acted. She mostly tolerated us, but LOVED farm boy and farm girl (if farm boy was not around). She loved sunbathing and blankets and hated rain and snow and being cold. She did not age well, and we anticipated her time with us was short many times over the past few years. We thought she was at the end several times and then she would bounce back.

Yesterday Penny started to really decline and we began to discuss that it may be time to let her go. As was always Penny’s way, she did things her own way. This afternoon she was restless and wanted to be held. Each of us took a turn trying to make her comfortable and happy. She quietly crossed the rainbow bridge in Scott’s arms, catching us all by surprise. She was kind of a cranky old lady, but we quickly realized how deeply she would be missed. We found a nice sunny spot for her final resting place and said our good byes. May doggie heaven be full of sunny spots and warm fuzzy blankets!
