Once we moved to the farm, we began to notice all kinds of birds that we had never seen before before. We added feeders to the yard and got a copy of the Audubon society’s bird book to help us identify our bird friends. We would get so excited when a new bird joined the feeder and we slowly became bird nerds. Farm boy took a Bird watching at his university and shared with us an app that lets you identify birds by picture or sound. That upped our enthusiasm for birds even more. Our next step was to add a camera bird feeder that lets us see a picture of the bird at the feeder.
This year, we decided to make a list of all the birds we have seen on the farm. It keeps growing, in fact we added 2 new birds just last week. As of today, our list stands at 29 species. We’ve seen everything from hawks to owls, cardinals to indigos, and a whole lot more. We have a few pairs of cardinals that seem to stay in our yard. One Daddy cardinal in particular seems very intrigued with us. He finds ways to peer in windows to see what is happening. It’s almost like he’s just checking in to make sure we are doing well.
Here are some of our favorite bird friends who have visited the farm:
