When I was growing up my Grandma always had a large Christmas cactus in her dining room. I remember being so intrigued by it as it always had flowers on it at Christmas time. Not too long ago, I saw of picture of my Great Grandmother with her huge Christmas cactus. It was so large that people went to Great Grandma’s house to see the cactus. It made me start thinking of Christmas cactus and how it had been many years since I had seen one. I thought nostalgically about how it would be a fun generational thing to share.

A few days later, Scott and I went to lunch at a local Chinese place. The windows at the front of the restaurant were completely lined with little Christmas cactus in styrofoam cups. I asked the waiter about them and he agreed to sell me a couple. It seemed like fate!

It’s now almost Valentine’s Day and my Christmas cactuses are just getting around to blooming. They are a great reminder to me of my beloved Grandmas and of the truth that it is never too late to bloom or share beauty with those around us.
