We had rushed to a memorial service, leaving behind Farm Girl (on purpose) and our cell phones (not on purpose). When we returned from the service, Farm Girl immediately questioned us as to why we would both leave our phones behind. She explained that the security alarm had gone off for an extended period of time and she could not find a reason. We chalked it up to an oddity because we do not have a security contract, just sensors for open doors and fire.

It had just gotten dark, and the alarm sounded again saying there was a burglary attempt. Farm Dad headed outside to see if he could find out what was going on. I was in the kitchen when a flash light started flashing in the windows. I figured it was Farm Dad looking around. What happened next made my heart skip a beat. There was a man screaming Sheriff’s department and shining a very bright light at me from the screen porch. We live almost 30 minutes from the Sheriff’s department and we don’t get visitors late in the evening. As the nice deputy determined I was not in fact a burglar, he shared that our alarm had notified the Sheriff we were being burglarized (no one has been able to figure out how, since we don’t have a subscription). They tried to call to make sure we were ok, but the phones were on silent and on the counter….not at the memorial service with us 😂. After a thorough search, it was determined that there were no burglars and the very nice deputy headed back to the station.
